Standby generator repair and maintenance from the licensed electricians who install them. Battery, controller, fuel, transfer switch: diagnosed by a certified Generac® technician, with the repair price in writing before we touch anything.
Call (251) 680-7500 Request ServiceA standby generator has one job, and it only gets to do it a few times a year. When a storm takes the grid down in Mobile and the generator doesn't pick up the house, the problem is almost never dramatic. It's a battery that quietly died in July, a weekly exercise cycle that stopped running months ago, a gas regulator that drifted, or a controller fault that nobody saw because nobody was looking. Generator repair is mostly the work of finding which small thing failed and fixing it before the next outage, not after.
Professional Systems is a certified Generac® dealer with licensed electricians who have installed and serviced standby generators across Mobile and Baldwin County for more than 25 years. We service Generac standby generators regardless of who installed them, handle Generac warranty repairs as a dealer, and bring existing units onto our annual maintenance roster. If the power is out and the generator didn't start, say so when you call: those calls are scheduled ahead of routine maintenance.
Licensed, bonded and insured. The repair price in writing before the work starts.

The number-one no-start cause. Gulf Coast heat shortens battery life, and a failed trickle charger lets a good battery die in place. We test both on every visit.
Low natural-gas pressure, a sticking regulator or a propane tank that ran lower than anyone noticed. The engine cranks but never catches, or runs rough under load.
Overcrank, low oil pressure, overspeed, RPM sense loss. Each code points somewhere specific; we read the history, not just the last fault.
A generator that skipped its annual service shuts down on low oil or runs hot. Neglect shows up exactly when the unit is needed most.
The generator runs but the house never switches over, or switches and drops out. Contactors, control wiring and the utility-sense circuit are where we look.
Salt air, fire ants, mud daubers and mice get into enclosures on the coast. Chewed wiring and corroded connections cause intermittent faults that are maddening to chase without the right experience.
Most no-start calls in Mobile trace back to the same handful of causes, and the first one is the battery. A standby generator battery lives outdoors in our heat and typically lasts two to three years. When it weakens, the weekly self-test may still pass with the utility feeding the charger, and then the first real outage, with no charger and a cold engine, is when it finally fails. Corroded terminals do the same thing with a battery that's otherwise fine.
After the battery come fuel and control: a gas valve that didn't open, a regulator that can't hold pressure with the engine pulling load, a stale propane supply, or a controller that locked out on a fault weeks ago and has been waiting for someone to clear it. If the unit starts but the house stays dark, the fault has moved to the transfer switch.
We arrive with the parts that cover most of this list, including batteries, so a typical no-start repair is finished on the first visit. If a part has to be ordered, you get the price and the timeline in writing before we leave.
Certified Generac technician, repair price in writing, full load test before we leave.
Won't start, starts and stops, runs but the house didn't transfer, or an error code on the display. Tell us the symptom and whether you're in an outage.
A licensed technician pulls the fault history, tests the battery and charger, checks fuel pressure under load, inspects the transfer switch and looks for corrosion and damage in the enclosure.
Before any repair, you get the exact price. If the unit is old enough that the money is better spent on replacement, we say that too and price both.
Parts replaced, oil and filters serviced if due, then a full test: utility simulated off, generator starts, the house transfers and carries its load, utility restored, generator cools down and shuts off.
Almost every repair above is cheaper as maintenance. Our $375 annual generator maintenance covers oil and filters, spark plugs, the battery and charger, the air filter, a check of the gas supply and regulator, a firmware and settings review on the controller, and a full load test, and it's scheduled in the calm months so the unit goes into hurricane season ready. Units that have never been serviced get a baseline inspection first, so you know what you're starting with.
Between visits, Generac® Mobile Link™ monitoring reports the status of the weekly self-test to your phone, so a failed exercise cycle shows up as an alert in July instead of a dark house in September. We set it up and show you what the alerts mean.
Maintenance is the same price whether we installed the generator or someone else did. Existing Generac units join our roster after a baseline inspection.
Repair. A battery, a regulator or a board on a unit with a service history is money well spent, and the unit has years left.
Usually repair, with a frank conversation. Engine hours, corrosion inside the enclosure and parts availability decide it, and we show you what we found.
Often replace. A major component on a unit past its service life can cost a large share of a new one, and the new one brings a warranty, Mobile Link and a quieter, more efficient engine.
Replace or add load management. A generator that trips on the air conditioner every outage was never sized for the house; see our guide to generator cost and financing.
We repair and maintain standby generators from West Mobile and Midtown to Saraland, Semmes, Theodore and Dauphin Island, and across the bay in Daphne, Spanish Fort and Fairhope. Coastal units get extra attention on corrosion and anchoring; units on propane get the tank and regulator checked against the generator's actual demand; units in older neighborhoods get the transfer switch and panel connections inspected, because that's where a 20-year-old installation shows its age.
Professional Systems is headquartered at 216 E I-65 Service Rd N in Mobile. Generator repair is part of a full electrical and HVAC license, so if the outage also took out a breaker, a surge-damaged air handler or the well pump circuit, the same crew handles it on the same visit. See generator installation for new systems, electrical services for everything else, and our Mobile, AL page for the full service area.
"Robby and PPS did a superb job installing my standby home generator at a competitive price. Coordination with the utilities companies and the required inspectors was smooth and easy, and the actual installation process, led by Ryan and Chase, was excellent."
— Chris G., Google review"They solved my many electrical problems in my 58 yr old home & installed a whole home generator! They even found & fixed a problem that could have easily started a fire in my attic! Excellent work at a fair price."
— Betty M., Google review"Came home late afternoon to find my power off. I called after hours and Robby was over in 15 min. It was a bad circuit breaker. From the time I saw I had no power til the time I had power back on was around 30 min. Amazing. Super nice guys as well."
— Gary S., Google reviewThe battery or its charger is the most common cause, followed by fuel supply problems such as low gas pressure or a sticking regulator, and controller faults that locked the unit out on an earlier error. A licensed technician reads the fault history, tests the battery under load and checks fuel pressure with the engine running to find which one it is.
Yes. We service Generac standby generators regardless of who installed them, including warranty repairs as a certified Generac dealer, and we bring existing units onto our annual maintenance roster after a baseline inspection. For other brands, call and we'll tell you honestly whether we're the right shop for your unit.
Once a year at minimum, and before hurricane season is the right time. Our $375 annual maintenance covers oil and filters, spark plugs, the battery and charger, the air filter, the gas supply, the controller and a full load test.
It depends on the fault. A battery, a regulator or a contactor is a small job; a controller board or an engine component is larger. You get the exact price in writing after the diagnosis and before any repair, and if replacement is the smarter spend we price that alongside it.
That's a transfer switch or control-wiring problem rather than an engine problem: a failed contactor, a utility-sense fault or a loose connection. We test the transfer sequence end to end and repair the switch, not just the generator.
Yes. Generac Mobile Link monitoring sends the status of each weekly exercise cycle to your phone and alerts you to faults. We set it up during a service visit and walk you through the alerts.
